1 Corinthians 10:13
This Sunday, we are beginning a new series called Twisted Scripture, where we’ll explore some of the most commonly misused verses in the Bible and uncover the true, and often more powerful, meaning behind them. This Sunday, we'll be looking at 1 Corinthians 10:13, which is frequently quoted as if it promises that “God won’t give you more than you can handle.” But Paul isn’t talking about hardship—he’s talking about temptation. Life regularly gives us more than we can bear, but this verse reminds us that when we face temptation, God is faithful. He will not allow us to be tempted beyond what we can bear but will always provide a way out so that we can stand up under it—not by our strength, but by His. The focus is not on our ability to endure, but on God’s gracious help to escape sin. And even when we fall, we have a Savior who never did—Jesus, our righteousness and Advocate, who lifts us up by grace and leads us back to Himself.
